What is a PC Answering Machine?
The PC answering machine is an incredible advance in technology. It is something that allows you to use your PC as an answering machine when you are not online. It will display the number that is calling so that you can decide whether or not you want to receive the call that is currently coming in. This is a wonderful use of your computer that will eliminate the need for bulky free standing answering machines or answering machines that have been built into your phone.
The drawback to older answering machines is the fact that they had to use tapes to record the incoming calls. They are not used nearly as often anymore, but they are still available as a cheaper alternative to the digital answering machines. When they first came on the market, the digital answering machines were a bit pricey, but all that is changing now.
With the competition getting fierce between computer, cell phone, and landline phone services, the prices for a digital answering machine are down sharply. A drawback of the digital answering machine, though not requiring tapes, is the fact that the inbox can get full. For people that travel often, this can become a problem. Also, a digital answering machine, usually limits you to having to be home to retrieve messages, though some allow you to call in with a code. Voicemail on your landline will also let you use a code to retrieve your messages from elsewhere, but then you have the problem of having yet another set of numbers to memorize.
A PC answering machine will pick up all of your calls and send them to your email. In this way, you will be able to check your messages and delete or save them from just about anywhere that will accommodate a computer and internet access. If you go on vacation for a month, a full inbox will not be a problem because you’ll be able to call in and eliminate the bulk as you go through the messages.
With a PC answering machine, you will be able to see who is calling in on your computer screen. This will allow you to answer the call if you wish or to ignore it. With a PC answering machine you will not be able to receive messages while you are online. If you choose to ignore a call, it will be ignored; the caller will not be able to leave a message because you are online. Some of the internet answering machine software is so technologically advanced that it will include caller id when a call is coming through and call waiting. Some of the software will even allow you to use your PC as a telephone connection in which you can speak with the caller through the PC.
The software that will allow you to use your PC as a telephone will also allow you to screen and/or block unwanted calls. No longer will you have to pick up a phone call as you are sitting down to dinner only to have someone go on a three minute diatribe about how you really need life insurance. You can avoid that call altogether by allowing your computer to do the work for you. As with caller ID if you see that a phone number is unfamiliar, you have the option of not answering the phone. If it truly is someone that is trying to reach you for something, they will have the option to leave a message.
An internet answering machine will even work for you when you are online. If you are busily working online and a call comes through, an internet answering machine will take the message which you can return at a time that’s convenient for you. In this way, you do not have to have extra hardware throughout your home, you will have your phone answering device hidden within your computer which will be one less thing that you need in your home.
An internet answering machine will save you space, time, and energy. You will not have to worry about tapes in answering machines being full or needing replacing. You will not have to worry about a full inbox in a digital answering machine. These problems will not occur if you use your PC as your answering machine. This will store your messages for you even when you are online and not able to get to your phone. This advance in technology makes communicating easier for everyone and organizes your messages nicely for you to return when you have time.
